Korfball is a team sport and has similar characteristics to volleyball and hockey. However, in korfball, two teams of different genders take part and try to score by throwing the ball to a target. Poles specially designed for the game of korfball are located on the field where the game is played and allow players to throw the ball to the target.

A korfball pole consists of a vertical pole and a ring mounted on the pole. The ring is where the players aim when throwing the ball. The ring is wide enough for the korfball to pass through. The pole is fixed in the ground and the ring is usually placed at a height of several metres.
